Austin Young is renowned for his idiosyncratic, insightful studies of well-known celebrities and performers. Some of his celebrity subjects include Debbie Harry, Margaret Cho, Amy Poehler, and Sandra Bernhard. His most recent work focuses attention on the world of androgynies, transsexuals and drag queens. Some of these personalities include Leigh Bowery, Jackie Beat, Squeaky Blonde, Jeffree Star, Varla Jean Merman, Dame Edna, Amanda Lepore, and Lypsinka. He has garnered favorable critical notice from media outlets such as Taschen, The Journal of Aesthetics and Protest, Elegy, Photo Digitalis and Premonition. Young’s work has regularly appeared in Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine, Surface, Flaunt, Vogue, Spin, Rolling Stone, and many others.

In addition, his film work has obtained much recognition at film festivals around the world. This year his short film "Strange Fruit" was awarded "Best Experimental Short" at the Silver Lake Film Festival. In 2003, his film "The Stroke" won "Best Short of 2003" on ADD-TV. The feature length documentary, "Queen of the Boogie," about torch singer Hadda Brooks, will show at festivals later this year.
